Just found this while in a GIS for “pontiac fiero rally car”.
Holy crap.

They’re very close to the wheelbase/track of a Lancia Stratos. There’s the usual iron duke4 weaksauce engine they had but I believe that one had the SD2.5 block and turbo. If one were to be built, the modern Rally America rules allow 3850cc pushrods engines in there for group2, so a drop in GM3800 v6 would be perfectly powerful enough.....or a Buick 231 v8 from a Range Rover.

...So when are you getting another one? It’s only a year til the Mount Washington Hillclimb, and I need a Fiero to race against my MR2.

Oh man, that would be fun.
Unfortunately, it looks like it’s going to be a while. I’m applying to grad school right now, so I need to hold onto that money.
Which sucks, because there’s a clean, 32K mile Formula for $5500 on one of the local Craigslists...

From what I found, this one ran a 3.0L V6. IDK if that’s a bored version of the 2.8L, or a different engine altogether. It purportedly made about 300 hp.

You're right, but I think it's still a bored out 4 super duty block.
